Ingredients
You mainly need only 3 ingredients to make this super easy peach cobbler. And you can definitely change the measurements so that everything fits the baking pan you use.
Peaches: You can use fresh peaches or nectarines but make sure they are super ripe and juicy. If you can’t find ripe peaches, we recommend canned peaches. So you can make this easy peach cobbler with cake mix recipe using either fresh ripe peaches or canned peaches (with all the juice in the can included).
Cake Mix: You can use yellow cake mix, white cake mix or vanilla cake mix in this recipe. All work fine. You can even make this cobbler with a gluten-free cake mix if you are after a gluten-free diet.
As for the amount of the cake mix, we use 425g Betty Crocker vanilla cake mix for our 9x13- inch (23x33 cm) baking pan. In the US, you can use a bag of 15.25oz cake mix.
Butter: Use unsalted butter.
(Optional) Nuts: It is optional to use nuts in this cake mix cobbler with peaches. We do love chopped almonds or pecans on it. They add a nice nuttiness to the dessert, but you are free to leave them out.
How to Make
The recipe is ready in a few super easy steps.
First, prepare the peaches. Fresh peaches: Peel and slice the peaches and place them on the bottom of a baking dish. Canned peaches: Just pour everything in the can into a baking pan (we used a 9x13-inch baking pan).
Second, prepare the cake mix: Pour the cake mix in a medium bowl and add in the melted butter. Mix to combine using a spoon. The mixture will look really crumbly, but don’t worry. It will absorb the juice of peaches when baking and result in a perfect peach cobbler.
Third, pour this buttered cake mix over the peach slices and flatten as much as you can with the bottom of a spoon. Optionally, sprinkle chopped almonds and almond flakes on the top. For a crunchy top and a nutty flavor, use your favorite nut or a combination of nuts for this peach cobbler made with cake mix.
Finally, bake at 350F/180C for 30- 40 minutes or until the top gets golden brown. Nuts over the cobbler toast wonderfully and add richness to this amazing peach dessert.
About How To Assemble
There are two other methods of combining peaches, cake mix and butter:
Method 1: Pour the cake mix right over the peach slices evenly and top it with chopped cold butter. Scatter the butter pieces evenly.
Method 2: Pour the cake mix over the peaches. Melt the butter and pour it over the cake mix evenly.
Although the two methods above technically sound easier because you don’t need an extra step in another bowl, neither of them is our favorite. We prefer melting the butter and combining it with the cake mix in a bowl until crumbly and then sprinkle this mixture over peaches. How hard can this step be? It is definitely worth because the cake mix is combined evenly with butter, which helps it bake evenly.
Tips
- Try to find the ripest peaches for this cobbler because we need all of their juice to have a better result. If you can’t find ripe peaches, use canned peaches with all the juice in the can.
- You end up with a moister dessert when you use canned peaches, which is more like a peach cobbler cake.
- You can increase or decrease the amount of cake mix or peach slices depending on the size of your baking pan. The key here is to cover the bottom of your baking pan with peach slices and to cover the top of those peaches with cake mix. So you can make adjustments to the measurements if your baking pan is smaller or larger than ours.
- The baking duration may differ depending on your oven. Check it after 30 minutes and if the top is wonderfully golden and nuts are brown, it is done. Bake it longer if it still looks undercooked.
- Keep the leftovers in the refrigerator if you make this on a hot summer day. Reheat or bring it to room temperature before serving.
How to Serve
It is fantastic when served warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and fresh peach slices. The melting ice cream over this warm dessert takes it to the next level.
FAQs
Yes, you can use canned peaches for this cake mix cobbler recipe. And the recipe becomes even easier and quicker this way. Don’t drain the juice in the can. Just pour it in the pan because it moistens the cake mix when baking. You can even set some of the juice aside and pour it over the cake mix as the final step before baking.
If you use fresh peaches and if they are not very ripe, you might end up with a dry result. Use the ripest fresh peaches or canned peaches with all its juice. Also, if you are using a smaller baking pan, you will need to reduce the amount of the cake mix. Use it just until it covers all the peaches.

Can you use a keto yellow cake mix with this recipe?
Yusuf says
Hi Susan,
We never had an experience with keto cake mix. So I don't want to mislead you. But I guess it works.
Annette says
Love this! I used white cake mix because that what I had and canned peaches(because now they are out of season), in 100% juice instead of syrup. I used walnuts and mixed them with 2 tbsp of brown sugar for the sweetness. Thank you for this versatile and very good recipe.
Yusuf says
Hi Anette! So happy to hear that! Just bought canned peaches today too to make this recipe 🙂 Thank you for the feedback!
Julie says
I'm making this tonight. Looks so easy!!
Beryl says
I have made this recipe for many years and my family loves it. I partially drain the peaches and mine is never soggy. I also find it easier to melt the butter or margarine and drizzle it over the top.
Jimmy says
I've made this several times and it's a good easy dessert. To cut down on the "sweetness" use peaches in very light syrup instead of heavy syrup.
Diane says
Can you make it with other berries?
Yusuf says
Yes Diane, you can.
Lila t Lambert says
can you use canned
peach pie filling
Yusuf says

Like another comment suggested, we added some cinnamon and brown sugar. It's VERY sweet, but maybe that works out for the better because it's the only thing stopping me from eating half the pan in one sitting lol. Might add less brown sugar in the future though. My husband and I have a very small list of very good dishes we'll make when we want to impress someone, and this cobbler made that list after I took the first bite and almost started crying because it was so delicious.
Savannah says
I added cinnamon and brown sugar to the peaches before adding the crumbles cake mix. It was delicious! Thanks for the shortcut.
