What one recipe do you make for your family very often? You know the one that is both easy and makes everyone in the family happy each time you make it. I think mine is Homemade Turkish Meatballs served with bean salad. I always have some in the freezer and this makes everything even easier during weeknights.

Sometimes we crave for something more flavorful and comforting though, like these gluten free meatballs flavored with honey and garlic. With the lowering temperature, these flavor packed meatballs take place on our dinner menu even more often.

The best part of this recipe is that meatballs are cooked in oven. You don’t need to watch them closely, just place them in the oven and forget for 35 minutes. Meanwhile you can prepare the delectable sauce.

My family is a fan of meatballs of any kind. One can easily notice the happy mood in the house if it is filled with meatballs cooking on the grill, over the stove or in the oven. Don’t you think it’s a great way to include vegetables in your family’s diet?

This time I paired these honey garlic meatballs with baby carrots. They cook right in the same pan with the honey garlic sauce. Carrots go  perfectly with the combination of sweet and tangy flavors. Alternatively, you can roast them with meatballs in the oven first and then toss them all  in the super tasty sauce.

    How Are They Gluten-Free?

To be honest, I didn’t intend to make these meatballs gluten-free when I first tried the recipe. After realizing that we had no breadcrumbs left in the pantry and feeling lazy to go out and buy some, I started to think of a good substitute. That was the time when I decided to grab the oatmeal package that was staring at me. When I searched a meatball recipe with oatmeal on the Internet and found it on Bacon Egg Cheesecake blog, I decided to add oatmeal in the meatball mixture. To my surprise, the result was so good! How come I hadn’t used it when making meatballs before?

I serve these with chopped parsley over regular pasta because we aren’t following a gluten-free diet. To make your dinner completely gluten-free, you can serve them on gluten-free pasta or rice.

While the meatballs do have oats instead of breadcrumbs, your recipe is still not gluten free. Soy Sauce is almost always made with wheat. I would suggest you change the recipe from soy sauce to coconut aminos or tamari that is 100% gluten free.

What a genius idea to swap breadcrumbs with oats. And these meatballs look so yummy!
I just want to dig right in. 🙂

Thanks dear! They were unexpectedly tender and fluffy. The sauce took them to the next level. Hope you have a chance to try it one day.
