The best combination of flaky phyllo, crunchy nuts, and sweet syrup.
Layers of thin and flaky phyllo sheets are filled with nuts and sweetened with baklava syrup. Make it at home with this easy baklava recipe and enjoy.
Let’s get started!
– Phyllo pastry sheets – Melted butter – Crumbled walnuts – water – sugar – a lemon slice
1
Put water, sugar and a slice of lemon in a saucepan. Heat it until sugar dissolves, bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 15 minutes. Then let it cool.
2
Trim the phyllo sheets to fit your baking pan. Then cover them with a damp towel to prevent them from drying out and breaking.
3
Place 5 phyllo sheets in the pan, brushing each with melted butter.
4
Sprinkle walnuts after the 5th phyllo sheet. Be generous.
5
Continue with another 5 phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter and sprinkling crumbled walnuts on the fifth one. Repeat this 5 times.
6
Brush the top well with melted butter. In total, we have 25 phyllo sheets with 4 layers of walnuts.
7
Cut the uncooked baklava pastry in diamonds or squares with a sharp knife and bake until golden brown.
8
Pour cooled syrup over hot baklava and let it sit until it absorbs the syrup, at least 4-5 hours.
9
This is an optional step. Sprinkle ground pistachio on each slice of baklava.
