Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound / 450 grams okra, washed and dried
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Slice the okra pods in half lengthwise.
  2. Place the halved okra in a large bowl. Drizzle them with olive oil and toss until they are well-coated.
  3. Sprinkle garlic powder, paprika, salt, black pepper directly over the okra. Toss until all pieces are evenly coated with the spices.
  4. Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and let it preheat for about 5 minutes.
  5. Arrange the seasoned okra in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. It's important to maintain some space between them for optimal air circulation. You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  6. Cook the okra at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-17 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time to ensure the okra are frying evenly.
  7. Remove the okra from the air fryer, and serve immediately. The okra can be enjoyed as is, or with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  1. Select Fresh, Firm Okra: They make for the crispiest fries.
  2. Cut Okra Lengthwise: This gives the best and crispiest result.
  3. Ensure Okra is Dry: Less moisture means more crispiness.
  4. Season Generously: Okra can handle plenty of flavor!
  5. Don't Overcrowd the Air Fryer: Okra should be in a single layer for even cooking.
  6. Shake the Basket Midway: This ensures all sides get crispy.
  7. Monitor Cooking Time: Check a bit early to prevent overcooking.
  8. Serve Immediately: They're best when enjoyed right after cooking.
  9. Storage: Allow the leftover okra to cool down to room temperature. Transfer them to an airtight container. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Freezing is not recommended.
  10. Reheating: To regain some of the crispiness, the preferred method for reheating leftover okra is in the air fryer. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Place the leftover okra in a single layer in the air fryer basket and heat for about 3-4 minutes
  11. To use frozen okra, thawing is not necessary. You can cook frozen okra directly in the air fryer. Cook them for 3-4 minutes longer.
