That’s why I almost always prefer trying homemade version of several foods and make my own Basic Homemade Flour Tortillas or Homemade Pomegranate Molasses. I’m not totally against store-bought things, but if it’s simple and easy I make it myself.
I use my Homemade Tomato Paste in this pizza sauce as I always have it in my kitchen. If you are crazy enough about homemade things, you can make it this summer and use it all year long. You can of course buy it if you like things easier or quicker. Besides dried thyme, I use fresh basil so that the flavor stands out. And to give it a personal twist, I used some fresh purslane leaves. That’s optional for sure. Just leave it out if you can’t find it in your area or don’t feel like new flavors in your pizza sauce.
You can make this homemade pizza sauce in large amounts and can them for future use. Just make sure the lids of jars are new and not used before. Share the sauce in the jars when it is simmering, tighten the lids very firm immediately and put the jars upside down at least for 6 hours or until they are completely cold. That’s it. Homemade Pizza Sauce
Very flavorsome pizza sauce. Very easy wih simple ingredients.
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cook Time: 40 minutes
- Total Time: 45 minutes
- 2 lbs fresh summer tomatoes, peeled and chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh purslane leaves, optional
- 3–4 leaves fresh basil
- 1 tablespon olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, grated
- 1 teaspoon dried tyme
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- Blend tomatoes, basil leaves and purslane leaves in a blender until smooth.
- Heat olive oil in a large pot. Add in the blended mixture, grated garlic, dried thyme, chili powder, salt, sugar and tomato paste. Give it a good stir.
- Bring it to a simmer and let it simmer for about 40 minutes or until it gets as thick as you desire. Taste and add extra salt if needed.
