As a big fan of breakfast, I love to prepare something special for lazy weekend mornings. Jam Crepes, Chocolate Pancakes or French Toast Sandwiches always make everyone in the family, especially my son, happier. Another thing that my son loves so much is to work with cookie cutters, so he was the happiest one when we made these Challah French Toast Bites with heart-shaped cutters. He really enjoyed cutting out the hearts. You know what? He couldn’t wait until the hearts turned into French toast bites and gobbled a few right after he cut them! We had great fun making these bites together.
If you want to make these for a crowd and need an easy way, it would be better to cut out the hearts the night before.
I knew I had to try Heart-Shaped French Toast recipe when I first saw it on Jackie’s blog Happy Hooligans. They were one of the cutest breakfast treats ever! We made these bites using challah bread as we always do when making French toast because it is fluffy and slightly sweet.
In fact, this is not very different from the classic French toast recipe. I added a little cinnamon in the egg mixture to complement that slight sweetness coming from the bread. Also, I think cinnamon gives a nice scent to these lovely Challah French Toast Bites.
My husband and I think the best gifts are always the ones you yourself make (read as bake or cook). Do you know how you can make your edible gift look even more special? The answer is quite simple: With a wonderful American Greetings Card. Target is an awesome place that offers a great selection of American Greetings Cards with a variety of themes. I feel like we are in an exhibition each time we visit the Target card section, so it’s really hard to pick one and go out.
Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? I think it doesn’t have to be limited to lovers. It should be an excuse to show our love to the people that touch our lives. Showing our family, friends, homemates or even colleagues how much we care about them is not that hard. We don’t need expensive gifts for this, do we? A sweet card with a heartfelt message can give the spirit perfectly, so make sure you go and check out the fun and unique options offered by American Greetings at Target before preparing anything for Valentine’s Day this year.
What Goes With French Toast Bites
Now let’s talk about how to serve these cute french toast bites. Some raspberry jam on the side makes a perfect match not only with its taste but also with its look. Unlike the original recipe, I didn’t coat them with cinnamon-sugar mixture because the sweetness of jam was enough for us. Cinnamon-sugar topping is a great idea though if you like them sweeter.
If you are more a chocolate person than jam, drizzle some homemade chocolate ganache over these heart-shaped bites. I would still place some berries on the plate.
If you don’t have a sweet tooth, then I recommend you to serve them with cheese and ham.
