Caramelized onions are life savers if you make them beforehand and store in the fridge.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 onions, halved and sliced thinly
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon grape molasses, optional
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium high heat.
  2. Add all the onions and stir to coat all the onions evenly. Stir occasionally.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium low so that the onions don’t burn.
  4. Add in salt after 10 minutes and add water to the skillet if the onions start to stick at the bottom of the skillet.
  5. Cook them for 30 minutes stirring occasionally and add in grape molasses.
  6. Bring the heat to the lowest and let them cook for about 20 minutes more.
  7. Don’t forget to stir every few minutes.
  8. Let them stick a little to the skillet to get a nice brown texture, so don’t stir too often.
  9. Continue to cook and scrape until you have the desired caramelized onions.
  10. Cool and store in the fridge for several days.
