You might think that these Orange Chocolate Brownies are heavy and too dense since they are loaded with cocoa powder and chocolate, but no they are so light and airy due to orange juice and orange zest I used. The moistness comes both from orange juice and from melted dark chocolate. We mostly use orange zest in Creamy Rice Pudding to give it a little more freshness, but I think orange is one of the best fruit to pair with chocolate, they go very well together in brownies!

The refreshing scent of orange always reminds me of new year celebrations with my family years ago. Mom used to take a big bowl full of oranges and mandarin in the middle of the night and I would love to burn their zest on the heating stove. The whole house was filled with that amazing orange scent. I always remember those nights whenever I feel the tempting scent of orange. That’s why I don’t like to wash my hands after peeling orange, I love to keep that scent in my hands as long as possible!

I chopped the orange zest finely and used it both in the batter and as topping, but it can be grated as well. I just wanted to have a nice texture.

It is the first time I’m using orange juice in brownies and the result is so good that I will absolutely be making it again. I guess these Orange Chocolate Brownies will be the ultimate dessert for family celebrations in my home!

Another thing that makes these brownies so light is olive oil. These Orange Chocolate Brownies prove that it’s possible to have a very tasty brownie without butter. I used just ½ cup olive oil and it was just perfect!
