March 2013

march 2013

March could be the most favorite month of most people as it is the beginning of Spring. It is not only the beginning of a new season, but it also makes you feel like you’re at the beginning of a new term in your life! I think people become more positive and more optimistic when March comes, they know that they will have nicer days in the coming months.

So March deserves a celebration, doesn’t it? How about celebrating it with this calendar on which you see a typical Turkish dessert, tulumba tatlisi? Have you tried it before?

I will write a post about this simple, yet so tasty dessert very soon!

I haven’t tried it before, but I certainly would like to! Thank you for sharing and for your kind words on my own blog! I hope you have a beautiful day!

They look so delicious – sweet and juicy!

I’m afraid March isn’t very “spring”-y here in my part of Canada…maybe a bit warmer, but we still have snow storms. The snow really doesn’t give up until after my birthday (March 26th), but at the same time it’s warmer and it kind of half-heartedly snows, so there’s much less of it, and it’s mostly dirty and pathetic-looking. Still a bit of a depressing time of year. It feels a bit fresher and warmer, but when I say that it’s because it’s 1 degree Celsius, not -20! Despite that fresher air, I still have to clean snow off my car in the morning, even if most of the new snow melts by lunch…

Hi Stamatia! So we start to have signs of Spring here earlier. You sound like you’re bored of snow and cold weather, just like I was a month ago! I didn’t feel like going out much then. Although I love to watch when it’s snowing, I don’t like it when it piles and remains on the ground for a long time. It makes things harder! So please get this post as a gift from me reminding you of warm weather from Turkey!

We are heading for Turkey in May. Can you give us some ideas of the food we will eat?

Wow! You will be so pleased to visit Turkey! I must warn you though; be prepared to gain some weight! We have so many tasty dishes here. As for food recommendations, it depends on the place you are planning to visit as almost all cities here have their own special foods. I could have suggested more specific dishes if you had given the name of your destination here. But we have some foods that you can find almost anywhere in Turkey. You should definitely taste Turkish gozleme, which is a kind of flat bread stuffed with different fillings. You could see women making gozleme even on the street.
Another food you should taste is Pide Stuffed with Beef
You might have already heard of our kebab or doner.
As a dessert, I would recommend you to taste Sutlac, rice pudding cooked in oven.
You might already know that you should buy packages of Turkish delight.
You can see other traditional Turkish foods on my blog in different categories.
      Wish you a nice journey!
