Keskek is one of the most popular wedding dishes in Turkish culture. And it is now under the protection of UNESCO.

Turkey applied to UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage with Keskek some time ago and it was officially approved by UNESCO in a meeting held in Bali, Indonesia on November 28. In this way, it is now approved that Keskek belongs to Turkish culture.

Her love of cooking started as a little child by messing her mom's dishes up! Despite all her mom's effort to teach her how to cook, she was happy as an 'assistant'. What made her want to jump to an upper level was her dad's compliments for the first dish she made herself. Finally, her husband, who claims that ancient humans were stronger than we are today as their main food source was meat, helped her love cooking meat dishes and improving vegetable dishes to make them more edible for him!

    A lot of countries seem to be keen to get Unesco protection. I am curious as to what that gets them in the long run.

      You know there are some foods in our cuisine origins of which are controversial. As we shared our land with Greeks and Armenians in the past, we have several common foods. To prevent any debates, the Unesco protection could be a solution.
